Walter Burt sought to date a woman who ultimately was an adult paedophile-hunter. Walter Burt, 62, of Elliot Street, presented himself in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
He confessed that on August 16 at his residence, he participated in sexualised discussions with an individual he presumed to be a 14-year-old girl, but was, in reality, an adult.
Prosecutor Lauren Pennycook stated that the girl’s profile was created by an individual affiliated with a group that operates online child decoys.
He received a message from Walter Burt sent to the fictitious profile of a 14-year-old female named Katy.
Further messages were exchanged and Walter Burt “introduced a sexualised tone”, asking questions and suggesting sex acts she should try “because she was at a ripe age for it”.
He suggested that they meet up even though ‘Katy’ confirmed she was only 14.
Walter Burt replied that she looked more mature than that and asked for a date.
The paedophile-hunter “became alarmed” and contacted the police who executed a search warrant at Walter Burt’s home.
Sheriff Susan Duff called for reports and Walter Burt was put on the sex offenders register ahead of sentencing on February 28.
